What do we do now, honey?…

When was the last time you used a travel agency to plan your trip?  Well, surprise, if you went online to sites like Expedia that’s exactly what you did.  But when was the last time you actually talked (interfaced?)  with a warm human on the other end of that cold, cold wire?

Imagine the old days when you could phone your local agent and give all your travel details/dreams, hang up, and minutes later have that agent call back with exactly what you had in mind.  You’d go over the plan, tweak it here and there, then book it, pay for it, and go back to dreaming about how fantastic it’s going to be.  Or you’ll meet your agent in person (imagine!), and put a face to a name, and know now that when you’re out there in the great unknown, maybe halfway around the world and in need of support, your local agent is under your highwire with the safety net.

Oh, and speaking of safety nets, when did an online travel website offer you a comprehensive travel insurance package designed especially for you, that covers you in all circumstances?  Why would they bother; there’s nothing in it for them.  On the other hand, a local professional travel agent wants you to have a worry-free holiday; they’ve met you, they know who you are, and they want to work with you again, so they need you to come back and start dreaming of your next holiday, not waking out of a nightmare reliving the trauma of your last one.  So they’ve studied, and trained, and are licenced by the BC Consumer Protection Branch to provide you with all appropriate insurance coverages.  You’ve heard all the horror stories that have befallen under-insured travellers.  Why add your name to that list?
